Stacks is a semi-regularly published zine of music reviews of various albums in my physical media collection. You can order physical copies of the zine from Quimby's in Chicago.

About Stacks

Stacks started as a result of me making A Little Punk Music, a one page zine that's a fan-favorite. It was a hit and I really wanted to write more. I just found the one-page format too limiting. Over the course of it's run, it's gotten a facelift or two. I originally was printing them out at home and assembling them with Washi Tape to bind the pages. Which really didn't work super well to be honest. I eventually moved to stapling them and covering the spine with washi tape which gave the physical zine a cooler look. At issue 7 I had switched to having them printed and assembled at The Copy Room in Evanston (They are great! Highly reccomend them if you need someone to print your zine.) And now the zine is printed in full color.

The new Stacks Logo

The Stacks logo has gone through three changes now, the first two logos were simply fonts I had found online, but after taking a break from making the zine, and zines in general for a few months, I knew it was time to give the zine a fresh coat of paint once more. So I went to my record shelf and pulled six different records. Kilroy Was Here by Styx, The Romantics' 1980 self-titled album, Armed & Dangerous by Razor, Unicorns Get More Bacon by Marc with a C, Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One by The Kinks, and finally Rooty by Basement Jaxx. I then proceeded to photocopy parts of each album on my copier, cut out the letters I needed, glued them to a sheet of paper and scanned them into my computer. Using photoshop magic I used the letters to form the new logo, seen above. I'm really happy with how it came out.
